More than one million square feet of advanced manufacturing, R&D and production infrastructure will support NNB Nutrition’s next phase of global growth
BOISE, Idaho — August 17, 2026 — NNB Nutrition, a science-driven nutraceutical ingredient company known for developing next-generation actives, announced a major new manufacturing and innovation facility scheduled to open in 2027.
Spanning approximately 100,000 square meters, more than one million square feet, the facility will significantly expand NNB Nutrition’s manufacturing capacity, research capabilities and ability to bring novel ingredients from scientific discovery to commercial-scale production.
Building on NNB’s existing vertically integrated development and manufacturing model, the expansion marks a major milestone in the company’s growth and will further strengthen its position as an industry leader in ingredient innovation and manufacturing.
With more than 60 patents filed and more than a dozen novel ingredients brought to market, NNB has built its business around identifying the specific metabolites and bioactive compounds responsible for an ingredient’s effects in the body, then developing methods to produce those compounds with greater precision, consistency and scalability.
Rather than relying solely on traditional extraction or commoditized raw-material sourcing, NNB uses technologies including fermentation, synthesis and enzymatic conversion to create and optimize ingredients at the molecular level.
The new facility is designed to dramatically expand those capabilities.
“NNB has always been built around the idea that ingredient innovation should begin with the molecule, not the commodity,” said Shawn Wells, CSO. “As our portfolio and global customer base continue to grow, our next challenge is scale. This facility gives us the infrastructure to develop, improve and manufacture next-generation ingredients at volumes that can support where the nutrition industry is heading.”
Innovation Built to Scale
The new campus will bring multiple ingredient-production technologies together within one integrated manufacturing environment, including organic synthesis, synthetic synthesis, fermentation, enzymatic conversion and extraction.
This range of capabilities allows NNB to determine the most effective pathway for producing an ingredient based on purity, scalability, sustainability, cost and performance.
Among the technologies expected to play an increasingly important role is precision fermentation.
Through fermentation, specially developed microorganisms can be used to produce specific active compounds within highly controlled manufacturing environments. For certain ingredients, this can reduce or eliminate dependence on crops or other traditional raw-material sources while improving consistency and allowing production to scale independently of agricultural limitations.
This approach aligns closely with NNB’s broader manufacturing philosophy: identify the compound that matters, then develop the most efficient and controlled way to produce it.
The facility will also expand NNB’s capabilities in enzymatic conversion, enabling abundant compounds to be transformed into higher-value actives.
Stevia provides one example. Reb A is one of the most abundant steviol glycosides found in the stevia plant, while Reb M is highly valued for its cleaner sweetness profile but naturally occurs in much smaller quantities. Through enzymatic conversion, Reb A can be converted into Reb M, creating a more scalable and potentially more economical production pathway than relying solely on naturally occurring Reb M.
Beyond Creating Ingredients
NNB’s expansion will also focus heavily on improving how ingredients perform in finished formulations.
The facility will house technologies for creatine purification and the production of clear plant proteins through hydrolysis. These technologies will also support optimization of characteristics including:
- Taste
- Aroma
- Solubility and mixability
- Clumping and flow
- Particle size
- Purity and consistency
These capabilities build on NNB’s existing work optimizing ingredients such as crystal-clear plant proteins, ultra-pure creatine with reduced byproducts and neutral-tasting collagen designed for more consistent formulation performance.
The goal is to address a broader challenge facing supplement, functional food and beverage brands: an ingredient may be scientifically compelling, but it must also taste, mix, process and perform effectively in the finished product.
By bringing ingredient invention and formulation problem-solving under the same platform, NNB aims to help customers move more efficiently from concept to commercialization.
A Major Expansion in Research and Development
The campus will include a seven-story office and research building supporting manufacturing employees, manufacturing management and expanded R&D operations.
Dedicated laboratories will support trial production, experimentation, process development and large-scale testing, allowing NNB scientists and manufacturing teams to evaluate new technologies before transitioning them into commercial production.
The integrated R&D and manufacturing model is intended to create a more direct path from molecular discovery to pilot production and ultimately to full-scale manufacturing.
That infrastructure is particularly important to NNB’s development model, which focuses on identifying key metabolites or bioactive compounds and producing them in highly purified forms.
By isolating and producing specific actives rather than relying exclusively on conventional source materials, NNB can develop ingredients intended to offer improved consistency and, depending on the ingredient, potentially enhanced bioavailability or effective use at lower serving sizes.
Production Capacity Designed Around Future Demand
The facility is being constructed not only to expand NNB’s scientific capabilities, but to significantly increase its ability to supply customers at commercial scale.
Once fully operational, the campus is expected to support approximately 10,000 metric tons of annual production across much of NNB Nutrition’s ingredient portfolio, excluding creatine, protein and collagen.
Including protein and creatine production, overall production capability is expected to reach approximately 20,000 metric tons annually.
The scale reflects NNB Nutrition’s continued growth and a broader strategic priority: ensuring manufacturing capacity expands alongside ingredient innovation.
For brands, that means NNB is positioning itself to support projects through the entire product lifecycle—from early research and formulation work to commercialization and high-volume production.
“Being first to market only matters if you can continue supplying the market as demand grows,” said Jake Mulder, CEO. “We are building the capacity now so our customers can grow without having to question whether the infrastructure behind their ingredients can grow with them.”
Building a More Resilient Ingredient Supply Model
The investment also reflects a shift toward greater control over ingredient supply chains.
Traditional ingredient manufacturing may depend on crop availability, geographic sourcing, seasonal conditions and fluctuations in raw-material supply. By expanding in-house fermentation, synthesis and conversion capabilities, NNB can reduce reliance on some of those variables.
The result is a manufacturing model designed around consistency, quality control, scalability and supply resilience.
For certain compounds, production can begin with biology and chemistry rather than the availability of a particular crop or naturally scarce molecule.
That distinction will become increasingly important as demand for functional ingredients continues to expand across supplements, sports nutrition, functional food and beverage and other consumer health categories.
From Ingredient Supplier to Innovation Platform
The 2027 facility represents the next chapter in NNB Nutrition’s evolution.
NNB has established itself by developing novel molecules, improving existing ingredients and solving formulation challenges that traditional ingredient approaches often leave unresolved.
Its next phase is about combining that invention with manufacturing scale.
“Our goal has never been simply to offer another version of an ingredient that already exists,” said Shawn Wells, CSO. “We want to understand what makes an ingredient work, determine how it can be produced better, and then make that innovation commercially accessible to brands around the world.”
With advanced manufacturing technologies, expanded R&D infrastructure and annual production capacity measured in tens of thousands of metric tons, NNB Nutrition’s new facility is designed to support that mission on a significantly larger scale.
The facility is scheduled to open in 2027.
